Executive Summary 2007
Final Report 2007

Executive Summary
Version on PDF

The aim of this Executive Summary of the Brazilian Energy Balance 2007 – year 2006 is to offer a consolidated version of the main parameters in the supply and consumption of energy in Brazil, summarizing the results for energy production, transformation and consumption in 2006, as well as the resources, reserves and installed capacity and the self-generation of electricity in the country.

To put the appraisal of these energy macro-indicators in a context, as well as detailing the self-generation of electricity, the document begins with a chapter presenting a brief description of the main macroeconomic indicators and an analysis of the correlation between the level of economic activity and the supply and consumption of energy in Brazil.

The following chapter presents the main indicator data on the supply and consumption of energy, by source and by economic sector through a historical series for the years 1970, 1980, 1990, 2000, 2005 and 2006, in addition to some indicators of energy intensity, consumption per capita and emissions. Data on installed capacity of electricity power plants are also presented.

The next chapter in the sequence presents, for 2005 and 2006, the reserves of the main primary sources and the inventoried hydroelectric potential, the production of the main primary and secondary energy sources and the capacity installed in the energy transformation centers, segmented by Federal Units and Regions.

The final chapter of this Executive Summary is especially noteworthy. It presents in a detailing level not reproduced in the National Energy Balance, the data for self-generation of electricity in the main sectors of economic activity. The distinguished items are: the general panorama of the evolution of self-generation for each sector in the last decade, with data for 1994, 2005 and 2006 and the self-generation’s sharing in country’s total electricity consumption; the evolution of the participation of each source in the total self-generation for the last decade, with data for 1994, 2005 and 2006; and for each sector of self-generating economic activity there is an evolution of the participation of each source in the total self-generation for the last decade, with data for 1994, 2005 and 2006, including the sums for acquisition and total consumption of electricity for the sector.
